MINI-INTERNSHIPS

This outstanding program, started in 1988, invites community leaders from the fields of Business, Education, Politics, and Media to spend two days with a physician to view the world of medicine. The program concludes with a debriefing dinner attended by the mini-intern and his/her physician host. This has been a great tool for improving physician/community understanding.

CORPORATE COUNCIL/PHYSICIAN RELATIONS

This committee began in 1992 at the request of several business leaders who were members of the Corporate Council, a Chamber of Commerce sub-organization which includes the Chief Executive Officers of all large local  corporations. The committee also includes physicians representing various fields of medicine and the hospitals. The purpose of the committee is to provide an ongoing dialogue between business leaders and medical leaders on any appropriate health care issue.
Today the Fort Wayne Medical Society members contribute $25,000 annually to the Chamber of Commerce Foundation.  The funds are used for economic development in Northeast Indiana.

CENTRAL FORT WAYNE "UNDERSERVED AREA" COMMITTEE

The committee was formed in 1992 as a result of the movement of the Lutheran Hospital Campus and the opening of the St. Joseph Medical Center/Dupont Road facility which lead to the declaration, by the federal government, of 31 central city census tracts as underserved by available medical facilities. The purpose of this committee is to insure that the physician community is represented in any decisions made on the application of these funds to the medical needs of the central city area. The committee is active in seeking providers of service among those groups already in Fort Wayne as well as monitoring new providers who may apply for available funds to establish new facilities.

SPEAKERS BUREAU

The Fort Wayne Medical Society serves as a clearing house for groups seeking speakers on medical topics and professionals who are willing to speak on request. Requests frequently are made by service clubs, senior citizen organizations and media representatives. You may be included as a speaker on topics in which you have an interest and expertise if you request.
